Book Review: The Tech-Wise Family: Everyday Steps for Putting Technology in Its Proper Place by Andy Crouch

The number of screens in our home seems to be multiplying. Between the tv, computers, iPads, smartphones, and kindles, screens are everywhere. While a lot of good can and has come from these technological powerhouses, there are many dangers and pitfalls that must be avoided in order for us to thrive as individuals and as a family.

If you’ve felt the pressure of distraction, time consumption, or temptation that comes with technology, then Andy Crouch has written a great book for you and your family. If you’re unaware of the dangers of technology for you or for your family, you need to get your head out of the sand and read this book.

Humbly and transparently Andy Crouch seeks to share his and his family’s pursuit of wisdom and technological consumption. Through warnings, wisdom, encouragement, and examples, Andy seeks to help us live a life that matters most. If we are going to do that, then we need to know the proper place for our devices. For example, let’s not wake up to our smartphone with Facebook and Twitter Feed, but let’s wake up and doing something meaningful and purposeful (spending those first moments of the day with a cup of coffee and reading the Bible… or putting our phones to bed long before we go to bed so that we can have meaningful conversations with our spouse and kids).

This truly is a great book for the whole family. Since we have teenage girls, each of us in the family have listened to the book and have made a family game plan for putting our technology in it’s proper place.
