Mark and I have wanted a dog for a long time. Not just any dog--we want a smart, sweet, perfect dog. We're acquaintances with some Labradoodle breeders here and so we began to look into bringing a puppy home to Okinawa with us. We haven't said a word to the kids about it because they are desperate for a dog and we weren't sure of this would work out (not to mention Mark's dog allergy that would be an obstacle to consider). Mark's mom got in on the excitement and wanted the dog to be a gift from her to the kids on Christmas morning. After calling Japan and researching the whole issue, we've concluded we can't do it... The puppy won't be old enough to meet all of Japan's requirements, as we would be traveling when he is only 4 months old. Here's his sweet face:
